This month we launch our stylist interview series with Los Angelino, Erica Mer.
Her styling has graced the pages of GQ, Vogue, Grazia, Nylon Manila, and many more high-profile magazines.
In addition to this her multifaceted background in production, costuming, and fashion styling, Erica has vast knowledge which led her to work on a variety of projects, from designing costumes for client’s such as Mattel, Gentle Monster, viral dance videos and e-commerce clients.
Her latest project includes styling a 70s inspired photoshoot for Desnudo Italia's latest Summer 2021 Issue "Last Love" featuring some statement SHAY pieces.
We asked Erica some questions about her latest project including where she gets her inspiration from to what her favorite SHAY pieces were that she styled to learn more about Erica and to get an insight into the mind of a stylist.
WHAT'S YOUR STAR SIGN?
YOU CAN'T LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT?
Safety pins, chapstick, water bottle, mood ring , antibacterial spray.
TOP TRAVEL DESTINATION?
Copenhagen and Greece.
TYPICAL DAY IN THE OFFICE?
In my “office,” there is no such thing as a typical day, which makes things very exciting. Whether I'm creating mood boards for an upcoming job, out in the world shopping for hours, buried in paperwork to wrap a completed job, or on set, there is always something going on. Such variety keeps me and my team on our toes.
Pair of my high waisted jeans, always with safety pins on the belt loop, an oversized men’s button-down, killer socks & sneakers.
WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION FROM FOR THE OUTFITS IN THIS SHOOT?
First, I envisioned summer romance in the 1970s. The seventies because it’s one of my favorite decades in fashion! This is where I began, then once I am physically in the LA showrooms, the inspiration morphs, usually leading me into different directions.
FAVORITE OUTFITS FROM THE SHOOT?
The first one is the green Helen Anthony suit on Niko, paired with the Shaku wrap scarf. The SHAY Green Onyx Portrait Earrings seals the deal entirely, of course! I also loved the all white outfit on Nico. This is the perfect example when my inspiration takes me elsewhere. The fashion story was heavily inspired by A Clockwork Orange meets the Renaissance. The Alabama Blonde vest perfectly complimented the Helen Anthony trousers, and United Nude sandals.
