As European countries start to open their borders and we look ahead to when it will be possible to travel to Europe safely again, more and more of our favorite hotels are announcing when they’ll unbolt their doors after being forced to close due to global lockdowns. A stay at a brilliant hotel might look different after lockdown – not only have many hotels taken the opportunity to renovate, but spaces are carefully putting in measures such as socially distanced dining and on-arrival temperature checks. We can’t wait to check back into the best hotels in Europe.

SPAIN

Full access to Spain – without the need to quarantine on arrival – has been granted to those travelling from EU countries and the UK.

Smart Spanish stay Sha Wellness Clinic will open on 22 July.

Ibiza’s wellness-focused Yogarosa Retreats will open on 1 July.

In Andalucía, Finca Cortesin – the best hotel in Spain according to our 2019 Readers’ Choice Awards – will start accepting guests on 1 July.

Brilliant spa SHA Wellness Clinic in Alicante will take bookings from 22 July.

Wellbeing hotspot Marbella Club – which is also a great family hotel – is due to open on 2 July.

PORTUGAL

 

The UK is in talks with Portugal about plans for an ‘air bridge’ between the two countries, leading Brits to cast their gaze to the slow-mo hotspot in hopes of a summer trip. There are no quarantine requirements currently in place for those arriving in mainland Portugal.

Villa Monte, a farmhouse in the Algarve, is now open.

Quinta do Lago’s smart Magnolia Hotel in the sunny Algarve will open on 1 July.

Vilalara Longevity spa will be back in action on 1 July.

ITALY

 

Restrictions for Italians – and travelers entering the country – were lifted on 3 June.

Cliff-top Amalfi hideout Monastero Santa Rosa will reopen on 9 July.

Exquisite Amalfi Coast villa Le Sirenuse will unlock its doors on 2 July.

Wellness space Palace Merano has reopened.

In Sardinia, Costa Smeralda has been welcoming guests since 3 June.

Villa Lena, a hideaway for creatives in the Tuscan hills, is now open.

Smart lakeside property Mandarin Oriental Lago di Como – one of our Hot List 2020 hotels – is open.

Another Lake Como favourite, old-school Villa d’Este, is open.

Mountain-view spa Preidlhof is open.

Il Sereno on Lake Como is now open.
